MONTREAL -- Former football star Tommy Kane, whose stabbing death of his wife last year shocked the city's black community, was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison.
Kane struck a plea bargain with the Crown in September that reduced his charge to manslaughter from second-degree murder.
The surprise plea outraged Tammara Shaikh's family, who had urged the Crown not to strike a deal with Kane.
The victim's sister, Ava, led a number of protests at the Montreal courthouse in support of her sister. More
