HealthyComputing - The Premier Source For Computer and Office Ergonomics

Are you like me, who works sitting down in front of a computer, for most of the day?

Tip of the day

To reduce eyestrain, follow the 20/20/20 rule: after every 20 minutes of typing, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds to rest your eyes.

Positioning or using your computer improperly can lead to various injuries, from the short term discomfort of headaches to potentially debilitating conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Sitting

(additional comments, taken from Centre Hospitalier Angrignon material)

Sit on a low chair allowing your feet to rest flat on the ground. The chair should be firm and with arm rests.

Straighten your neck keeping your chin tucked in and make sure your back is well supported. The back of the chair should maintain the lower back (lumbar region) slightly curved anteriorly. A rolled towel, or Obus Forme, used with an ordinary chair can improve your posture.

Bring your chair close to your desk. Do not work with the head bent over. Adjust the height of the working surface to be at the level of your elbows in the sitting position. If you wear reading glasses, place your book low enough to maintain the chin tucked in and the neck lengthened.
