Yahoo! News - Canada's largest Protestant church opposes efforts by some clergy to unionize

"Trade unions can and do work for good in society, but they are not a good fit for United Church clergy," Rev. Jim Sinclair, general secretary of the General Council of the United Church of Canada, said Friday in a statement.

The Canadian Auto Workers agreed to represent the ministers in an organizing drive that began last week. The move came after several days of discussions between the CAW and clergy concerned about mistreatment by parishioners and poor support from officials at the church's national headquarters. | More |
